Diagnostic Laparoscopy for Women

Diagnostic laparoscopy is a minimally invasive technique used to examine the abdomen or pelvis using a small video camera inserted through a tiny incision. This allows the surgeon to detect tumors and other medical conditions. Laparoscopy is particularly helpful in diagnosing and treating fibroids, tumors, and infertility issues, especially when ultrasound or X-ray results are inconclusive.

Laparoscopy enables the examination of the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries, making it useful for infertility diagnosis and treatment.

Gynecological Conditions Diagnosed with Laparoscopy

  • Endometriosis diagnosis and treatment
  • Removal of scar tissue (adhesions) caused by pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or endometriosis
  • Ectopic pregnancy treatment, where a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus
  • Tubal ligation (sterilization) to prevent future pregnancies
  • Ovarian cyst removal
  • Hysterectomy (uterus removal) or oophorectomy (ovary removal)
  • Fibroid removal
  • Cancer evaluation to determine the presence or spread of gynecological cancers

Side Effects of Diagnostic Laparoscopy

  • Mild vaginal bleeding
  • Abdominal pain
  • Shoulder pain (due to gas used to expand the abdomen)
  • Fatigue
  • Bruising around the incision site
  • Nausea
